About the event

Yin Yang yoga balances the relaxed pace of Yin Yoga (aka Restorative Yoga) with traditional Yang Yoga (think Vinyasa, "Flow", Ashtanga and Hatha). By combining the two different styles of yoga, Yin Yang yoga improves energy and fitness while also promoting relaxation and healing.

Yin — a passive, cooling energy, embodied by stillness and rest

Class starts with yin poses, which are held for a period of time — typically three to five minutes — to target the connective tissues, such as the ligaments. As a result, the poses are passive holds with very little active engagement of the muscles.

Yang — a dynamic, warming energy, embodied by movement and activity

The second part of class will lead into Yang Yoga — Hatha and Ashtanga asanas and *vinyasas* that warm the body and stretch and strengthen the muscles. Movement and holds are in the more physical style of yoga. We warm the bodies with movement and work up a bit of a sweat.

Yin and Yang complement each other and one cannot exist without the other, the Yin/Yang yoga practice uses both types of yoga to provide both physical and spiritual balance.
